My first web page designed using CSS

For EDTECH 502 this week I encoded my first page using CSS style sheets. While I am just tapping into the power of this remarkable tool, I understand what a difference it has made in website design. Thank you, CSS, for giving us all a much more aesthetically pleasing experience when browsing the Internet. You are amazing and I hope to get to know you better.

Access program volunteer

Imagine a chance to “explain, demonstrate, teach, engage, or discuss any topic or skill related to American culture” with 40 underprivileged Nepali teenagers.

I will have that opportunity in a few weeks, possibly every month. Through the U.S. Government-sponsored Access Program (operating in 80 countries around the world), these teens have been the recipients of a two-year scholarship. They will receive 380 hours of intensive English language and American culture instruction.

What a great opportunity for me to incorporate some of the ideas I’m learning in the EDTech program.

I will bring my iPad, show them photos of everyday teens in my hometown of St. George, Utah. I will show them videos and allow them to make connections. I will teach them an overview of what the Internet is and how technology can be used effectively. I will use educational apps that help them review English sight words and reading skills. I will let them take photos with the digital camera and show them how to upload and edit them. The possibilities are endless.

I have a lot of ideas. We’ll see how it goes and what I end up doing.

In the meantime, I am very excited about the EDTech program and love everything I’m learning so far.

And it’s only week 1…
